What Are the Benefits of Replacing Missing Teeth?

Replacing missing teeth is more than enhancing the appearance of your smile. Leaving a gap in your smile can cause the neighboring teeth to shift into the space, leading to crooked teeth and problems with the bite. Moreover, missing a tooth can cause an imbalance that increases the risk of gum disease and tooth decay.

Having a complete set of functional teeth will enhance your oral health, improve your chewing function, and help you speak clearly once again. Best of all, your restoration will support your facial structure, maintaining your youthful appearance.

Removable Partial Dentures - An Overview

Partial dentures are removable alternatives to fixed dental bridges designed to replace missing teeth when some natural teeth remain. They usually consist of gum-colored bases and replacement teeth attached to supporting metal frameworks. They connect to existing teeth using metal clasps or precision attachments. At Michigan Coast Dental, we also offer cosmetic, metal-free restorations, known as flexible partials, for enhanced comfort, function, and aesthetics.

Complete Dentures - An Overview

Complete or full dentures are removable devices that, similar to partial dentures, come with gum-colored bases supporting artificial teeth. They offer a restorative solution for patients missing their entire upper, lower, or both arches of teeth. At Michigan Coast Dental, we offer two types of complete dentures: immediate and conventional.

Immediate Dentures: Immediate dentures are created before removing any remaining teeth and are placed in the mouth right after, meaning you won’t have to go without teeth for a single day. However, the bone and gums change shape during the healing period, so it’s impossible to get a perfect fit for permanent dentures right away. Immediate dentures typically require adjusting and relining down the road to continue to fit and function as they should.

Conventional Dentures: Conventional dentures are created from impressions of your mouth after healing is complete, ensuring the best fit, comfort, and function. They’re made from the highest quality denture material to enhance your smile for many years to come. Conventional dentures are usually placed eight to 12 weeks after extracting any remaining teeth.

Implant-Supported Dentures - An Overview

Implant-supported dentures, also known as overdentures, are restorations that rely on dental implants for support, providing unmatched comfort, stability, and durability. Dental implants are the only restorations that mimic the function of natural tooth roots, preventing bone loss in the area and enhancing your oral health. Once in place, your new replacement teeth will look, feel, and function like natural teeth. With proper care, implant-supported dentures can last a lifetime!
